Protecting Lives Through Awareness
Foreign workers form a vital part of Singapore’s workforce — contributing tirelessly to our nation’s development in sectors like construction, cleaning, and shipbuilding. Yet, behind their hard work lies a silent vulnerability: a disproportionately high rate of HIV infections among this community.
This is not due to recklessness, but often a lack of awareness and access to accurate information. Many of these workers come from countries where AIDS education is limited, and conversations around sexual health are stigmatized or avoided altogether. As a result, they are left unprepared, misinformed, and at risk.

At Children of Mother Earth (CoME), we believe that education is the first and most powerful step in prevention. Through our AIDS Awareness Campaigns, we reach out directly to the foreign worker community to provide honest, clear, and culturally sensitive information about HIV/AIDS.
Our approach includes:
- Distributing multilingual flyers tailored for Indian and Bangladeshi workers, in areas where they gather on weekends such as Little India and dormitory clusters.
- Interactive talks and discussions in familiar spaces, helping workers feel safe to listen, learn, and ask questions.
- Private counselling sessions, offering support for those who may be concerned about their health or seeking guidance.
In the past, in collaboration with the Singapore Police Force and the Health Promotion Board, CoME also conducted educational film screenings in Little India to engage workers through visual storytelling and real-life scenarios.
